Kai Niggemann

Kai Niggemann (Paradeiser Productions) kreiert eine poetisch-abstrakte Musik, mit Hilfe der Buchla 200e Electric Music Box.
Er nutzt den modularen Synthesizer und vor allem die darin enthaltenen Zufallsgeneratoren wie die "Source of Uncertainty" (Modul 266e) als Weg raus aus der Komfortzone, weg vom sicheren Computer und hinein in eine Klangwelt, die geprägt ist vom Hier und Jetzt, vom Moment, als Spielpartnerin live und improvisiert entsteht.

Er ist auf der Suche nach Timbres und rhythmischen Strukturen, die sich weit vom diatonischen und four-to-the-floor entfernen und die aus vom Musiker musikalisch gewichteten Zufallsstrukturen entstehen. Meist mit dem Rücken zum Publikum aufgebaut, gewährt er über die Schulter einen Einblick darein, wie diese Musik entsteht.

Neben der Buchla Electric Music Box arbeitet er mit Fieldrecordings, Geräuschchor, selbst gebauten Klangerzeugern und akustischen Instrumenten, leitet das Theaterlabel “PARADEISER productions” zusammen mit Ruth Schultz, ist Mitglied der riesigen Band “The Dorf”, und dem Elektronik-Trio “The Last Books” (mit Achim Zepezauer), improvisiert mit Mia Zabelka als “Redshift Orchestra” und gründete das Internet-Computermusik-“European Bridges Ensemble” (EBE) sowie das elektroakustische Duo “Resonator” mit.

Er performt solo und mit Partner*innen, hat einen Lehrauftrag an der Kunstakademie Münster und gibt Musik-Elektronik-Workshops (“Löten unter Aufsicht”) zusammen mit dem Klangkünstler Stan Pete.

Zuletzt veröffentlichte er z.B. mit The Dorf (feat. Caspar Brötzmann & FM Einheit), mit Redshift Orchestra (mit Mia Zabelka) und spielte u.a. zusammen mit Mia Zabelka (Wien), Yoshio Machida (JP) und Stian Westerhus oder Shahzad Ismaily (mit The Dorf).

Im Dezember 2016 erschien auf dem Mülheimer (Ruhr) Label ANA OTT ein Split-Tape mit Kai Niggemann & Nils Quak.
Im Mai 2017 erschien sein Track “Electric Canopy” auf der Compilation “Sound Canvas 2” des Moskauer Labels Mikroton Digital (Kurt Liedwart).
Im Dezember 2017 erscheint seine 10” Vinyl “Heart Murmur” auf Kalakuta Soul Records/waf80music.

Kai Niggemann (Paradeiser Productions) creates a poetically abstract music with the help of a Buchla 200e Electric Music Box.

He uses the modular synthesizer and the included modules such as the "Model 266e Source of Uncertainty” as a path out of the comfort zone, away from the safety of the computer and into a soundworld, shaped by the here and now, from the floating moment, with the Source of uncertainty as a partner for improvisation.

Kai seeks out timbres and rhythmical structures beyond diatonic/four to the floor, that evolve from the composer’s weighing of random sources. Usually working with his back towards the audience he offers a view over his shoulder how this he creates the music and tonalities.

Besides the Buchla he uses other sources for sound and music, such as fieldrecordings, a noise choir, DIY-soundmakers and acoustic instruments. He is the artistic co-director along with Ruth Schultz of the theater company “PARADEISER productions”, is a member of the 30-piece kraut-noise-jazz collective “The Dorf” and the electronics duo “The Last Books” (with Achim Zepezauer), performs and records with Mia Zabelka (Vienna) as “Redshift Orchestra”, cofounded the internet-computermusic “European Bridges Ensemble” (EBE) and the electroacoustic duo “Resonator”.

He performs solo and with partners, has a teaching assignment at the Academy for Fine Arts in Münster and teaches music-electronic workshops (“soldering under supervision”) together with sound artist Stan Pete.

His most recent releases were the CD/vinyl “EviL/EvyL” and the cassette “Made in Österreich” with The Dorf (feat. Caspar Brötzmann & FM Einheit (Ex-Einstürzende Neubauten) or “Thinking Light” by Redshift Orchestra (duo with Mia Zabelka).

He performed concerts with Mia Zabelka (Wien), Yoshio Machida (JP), Stian Westerhus or Shahzad Ismaily (mit The Dorf) among others. A split tape with Kai Niggemann & Nils Quak was released by the Mülheim(Ruhr), Germany based label Ana Ott in December 2016. Recently his track “Electric Canopy” was released on a compilation by the Moscow based label Mikroton Digital (Kurt Liedwart). His 10” vinyl “Heart Murmur” is due out in December 2017 on Kalakuta Soul Records/waf80music
