Maria Popova is a Russian-born dance artist, based in UK. Her practice is rooted in improvisation and interdisciplinary performance making, often in collaboration with other artists, creating movement pieces that position the female body at the heart of the exploration. Maria is fascinated with the sculptural form; a theme that can be seen throughout her research.
She is currently a part-time lecturer at Leeds Beckett University, teaching on both the Performing Arts and Dance courses. Alongside her artistic commitments, she holds the role of Project Assistant for the Dance ON Project at Yorkshire Dance, which is a regional research project that focus on older adults (ages 55+), with the aim to prevent social isolation through dance.
