Yannick Hofmann

*1988 in Offenbach am Main (DE), lives and works in Karlsruhe (DE).

The works of new media artist Yannick Hofmann oscillate between the time- and space-based arts. In his oeuvre he often deals with socially disruptive aspects of technology and uses methods of the maker and hacker scene such as creative coding, physical computing, hardware hacking and rapid prototyping. Many of his works take up the artistic strategy of détournement. In addition, he is committed to expanding the technical requirements of musical-compositional practice through multimedia.

Yannick Hofmann is deputy head of artistic research and development at ZKM | Center for Art and Media Karlsruhe and teaches at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT). As a new media artist and curator, Yannick Hofmann has been internationally active in Central, Southern and Eastern Europe, Russia, North America, Southeast Asia and India. He has worked together with Dieter Appelt, Justine Emard, Bernd Lintermann, Jagoda Szmytka, Peter Weibel and Dan Wilcox, among others.

Die Arbeiten des Medienkünstlers Yannick Hofmann oszillieren zwischen den zeit- und raumbezogenen Künsten. In seinem Oeuvre beschäftigt er sich häufig mit sozial disruptiven Technologie-Aspekten und nutzt Methoden der Maker- und Hacker-Szene wie Creative Coding, Physical Computing, Hardware Hacking oder Rapid Prototyping. Viele seiner Werke greifen die künstlerische Strategie des Détournements auf. Darüber hinaus setzt er sich dafür ein, die technischen Voraussetzungen für die musikalisch-kompositorische Praxis durch Multimedia zu erweitern.

Yannick Hofmann ist stellvertretender Leiter der künstlerischen Forschung und Entwicklung am ZKM | Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe und lehrt am Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT). Als Künstler und Kurator war Yannick Hofmann bereits international in Mittel-, Süd- und Osteuropa, Russland, Nordamerika, Südostasien und Indien tätig. Er arbeitete u.a. mit Dieter Appelt, Justine Emard, Bernd Lintermann, Jagoda Szmytka, Peter Weibel und Dan Wilcox zusammen.
